Hello! I am Tim Carnes. Welcome to my Electronic Ministry Information and Resume Site. You should find an inclusive amount of information covering all major facets of my ministry. If you have any questions do not hesitate to use the "Contact Me"button and send me an inquiry. Thank you.
I was blessed to be born into a home with Christian parents. For as long as I can remember we went to church. I can remember the impact that was made on my life by many Christians as they loved God, loved each other and worshipped the Lord with sincerity and excitement.
When I was 12 years old, in a revival service in Covington, Ga, the Holy Spirit convicted my heart and let me know that even though I had Christian parents and even though I was familiar and faithful to be in church, I was lost and needed a personal relationship with Him. I went to the altar and accepted Christ as my Savior. I can remember the joy I had in my heart and the moving of God in my life throughout my high school years. I enjoyed reading the Bible and would find various opportunities to worship Him throughout the week, whether in church services, revivals or Christian coffee houses.
I enjoyed and believed it vital to share my faith. At the age of 16, I was privileged to be able to go on a summer mission trip to Japan, Hong Kong and the Philippines. How exciting it was to watch God provide the faith funds to make this trip possible. I felt God’s call in my life to preach in 1974.
I was raised in the Church of the Nazarene and saved in the Wesleyan Church, so it was natural that when I began to follow God’s call on my life, I received my first local and district licenses from these churches and when I went to college, I began at Central Wesleyan College (now called Southern Wesleyan University). I completed the ministerial course of study for both the Wesleyan and Nazarene Churches. This was over 7 years of study and preparation.
This was a very important time in my life for 2 reasons. First, this is where I met the girl and love of my life, Diane. The person God intended me to spend the rest of my life with and a perfect partner in the ministry. God through His providence brought us to that place for the purpose of our meeting and marrying. I was first drawn to my wife by hearing her testimony in a missions conference. There was a large crowd in attendance and I could not see who was speaking but because she was using a microphone and was giving her testimony from the floor, I could hear her. I remember after hearing her testimony that I had to find out who this girl was and meet her. I knew that there was something special about this girl. We did meet and history confirms that after 46 years of acquaintance and 44 years of marriage, I was right, she remains something special and has proven to be the best half of our marriage.
The second important thing that came from this time was my studying and searching the scriptures for doctrinal truth. I had heard those who believed they could lose their salvation try to weasel and explain away the teachings of Gods grace and security. I began wrestling with issues such as security of salvation and the eradication of the sin nature. God had placed me on a course of learning from the other side of the road the truth about what the Bible teaches in these and other areas. I was not satisfied just to get a surface and traditional answer and I have found over the years that there is misconception from both sides of the road about what other denominations and believers believe. I was told when I was a teenager, by preachers whom I believe to be respectful that Baptists believe you can sin anytime and be ok. I had met the Baptist Sunday School teacher who told me with some degree of fervancy that he was saved and he could go out and commit adultery and that would be ok. My study of these issues took time. Equally, I had heard the preaching from Wesleyan preachers in my youth that there was a second work of grace called sanctification and that this work would eradicate the sin nature. I found neither of these extreme positions to be taught in the scriptures and I found neither to be real in practice. While I was in college, I would drive 3 ½ hours every weekend to supply pastor a small church in Tennille Ga.
I continued to serve the Lord while searching the scriptures and seek accurate understanding of the Biblical Doctrines. My ‘conversion’ in becoming a Baptist was a process that looking back on now reveals the deliberate path laid out by the Lord. I am thankful for the road the Lord chose as He showed and taught me the truth of His Word. How many individuals over the years have I met who will tell you what they believe but can not tell you why they believe it. They merely accept what they have been told. I am thankful that God allowed me to start from a position which is Biblically flawed so I could arrive where I am because I know what the Bible teaches and I have spent as much time testing each doctrinal position with scrutiny. I do not want to be a spiritual anemic but I want to know what God is telling us and believe it.
The Lord used a series of events to get me to Victory Baptist Church in North Augusta, SC. I graduated from Victory Baptist Bible College in 1993. I had spent 7 years at Victory in various part time and full time ministries before leaving to Pastor Southgate Baptist Church in 1994. I was ordained at Victory in 1994. The Lord allowed me to be a member, staff, Education Director, Bible College Professor and Asst Pastor in a place where souls were being saved almost weekly. I watched God work as he changed lives and the Pastor's love for souls, families and other preachers with vibrant worship in services was a match for my spiritual dna.
I witnessed how God could bless a church both from the perspective of the pew and from the perspective of the ministry. I witnessed how the church and the ministerial leaders could been in harmony and how God blessed a church with a vision to reach the world. I witnessed ministerial challenges and how they could be dealt with Biblically so as not to cause permanent damage to the church or to the individuals. I have watched God as He has blessed that ministry where we went from some 550 in Sunday school to close to 1700.
God has been faithful every step of the way and my love for Him is as real and vital today as it has ever been. I desire to live righteously and faithful before Him, to serve Him with all my heart, mind and strength. I am thankful that God saw fit to redeem His fallen creation and I am thankful He loves us as He does. The work of the church is so important and never more so than in the day we are living. Satan wants to destroy the voice of the church so he can spread his lies and deceit. The hope of our world is in the gospel and while the enemy of our souls would like nothing more than to silence us, God is great enough to accomplish His plan and His will in and through our lives.
He is a precious and wonderful Lord.

Personal Testimony
Ministerial Philosophy
I believe it is imperative to have a cohesive philosophy between a Pastor, the Deacons and church leaders and the congregation. Ministry is a team effort where those called and directed by God are able to unify their hearts and efforts toward the same goals and be able to magnify the Lord through their service as they minister to the needs of the local body and reach a lost world for Christ.
I believe in Pastoral authority but not Pastoral autonomy. I believe that the principal role of the Pastor, as the under shepherd, is defined as follows:
Encourage – The Pastor should love his people, pray with his people and minister to them in times of joy, in times of pain and suffering, in times of sadness and in whatever times the people find they need a spiritual leader. People need someone to shed tears with them, to share laughs with them. People need encouragement and love and they should find this in their Pastor.
Enable – The Pastor should be able to build the spiritual lives of the local church and to equip/enable them to grow spiritually so that they can serve God with the strengths and callings they have.
The church is as the body, many members with many strengths and abilities. Not everyone can do everything but everyone can do something. God has called each of us to be ministers to the world and He has equipped each for that task. The role of the Pastor is to build that foundation and ensure the framework exists where each can find their area of ministry and be able to practice it to the glory of God. The Pastor should work closely with the Deacons as they accept their responsibilities of ministry and jointly find methods to minister to the local body.
Exhort – The Pastor is to give himself to the study, preparation and preaching of the Word of God. If the body of Christ is to grow and flourish, sin is not to be condoned. The gospel must be preached and there should be a sensitivity to the needs of the lost community around us as we exhort them to leave their lives of sin and accept the free gift of salvation.
Believers are to be taught and exhorted to pursue the higher things of God, seeking His will and way in their lives. Personal spiritual accountability and lives of separation from the lusts and wiles of the world should be taught. Preach all the Word in truth and in love. No one should be excluded from the gospel. No one should be shunned in the assembly and God’s Word should be exalted as the greatest roadmap available for life’s answers.
Examine – The Pastor should be a leader able to examine the community around the church and its needs. He should be able to analyze the methods and practices of worship so as to meet the diverse needs of a culture under change as well as a body of believers from multiple generations. It is important to hold traditions but not to the exclusion of reaching the world today. It is important to be willing to try new things in an effort to reach a different generation, but not to the exclusion of traditions held as vital in the life of the church.
These methods and means of ministry must be guarded so as not to become unscriptural in their approach or presentation and in concert with the direction and needs of the church. The youth should not be abandoned in order to preserve the aged and the aged should not be abandoned to reach the youth. There must be a harmony in these areas. A Pastor must be able to examine a method and discern its appropriateness and applicability to the church.
Exalt – The Pastor should have a goal of exalting Christ in the services. This should permeate the music, the ministry and the message. Are we exalting Christ and leading people to Him. Are souls drawn into a closer relationship with God because of what we do. Ministry is not a one man show. Ministry is a team effort and for that team to function properly the spiritual shepherd of the church, the Pastor, must be able and willing to let everyone exalt the Lord while maintaining a spiritual harmony and cohesiveness.
